ECONOMICS AND POLITICS

For a while I have been working on a paper to find the relationship between Economics and Politics. I should say this topic is not any extraordinary topic in any of the fields aforementioned. It is however satisfying to write about it. Many definitions I have looked up on both fields strike a relationship between them, in that, they are both regarded as a science.

The word science in the definition of economics and politics (in a broader sense political science), draws the line for this argument. Science deals with arriving at objective conclusions, in as much as possible, by analyzing empirical data. If this is so, then I want to draw the attention to those who practice politics--which is basically the study of governance and all that pertains to it-- about the key word, "objectivity".

It is very important for both practitioners of politics and economist to uphold the principle of objectivity. Politics, especially as practiced in third world countries or developing countries is mostly characterized by pure subjective egocentric behaviour. The time has come for all (practitioners of economics and politics) to work hand-in-hand in making the dreams of the various economies being managed actualize.

The blame game should stop, policy makers and implementing institutions should strike a perfect balance and work together to create a state of utopia for all citizens.

Politics, although different--with regards to the area it deals with-- from economics, is actually one and same. For those who govern states are often well versed in matters of economics; if so, then they are duty bound to manage the affairs of the state excellently; although such is not the case most of the times.

Milton Friedman once made a statement which implied that the dynamic demands of politics overrides the objective conclusions of economics. I believe in this time and age, we owe it society to find a common ground where politics and economics are not viewed as contradictory forces.

To conclude, I will like to say that the general goal of economics, which is, to ensure that there is a zero balance for all transactions in the state for the general welfare of the citizens is the ultimate goal of politics also.

A FRESH START FOR A FRESH YEAR

Some may wonder why this is coming so late in the year; the truth is, a thorough and sober reflections takes time, and I believe this couldn't have come any sooner. The past year was fun, but not glorious; it helped me learn about some few notions I kept in life. In all, I am of the view that things have to change! Not only for me, but for all those around me. This year should be a year where we make things happen. There is a road ahead of us, full of conquest, this is the road we pry on this year.

I side with my president, this year should be a year of action! I, personally rid myself of all banality. I am tired of doing things others have done. What's the point in doing it, if it has already been done. This year, I say, we DARE TO DREAM OF THE IMPOSSIBLE.

Many times, people ask: What do you want to become in life? I presuppose this is a good question for self assessment. However, the question I want to deal with this year is, 'what have you achieved?'

This year, all the blueprints I have conceived and prepared will be put to action this year. I will be what I've been dreaming of. Another year to live, another bridge cross, some stones to turn, what can I say, life is worth living. LIVING IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE WHERE YOU FIND YOURSELF.

So this is my 'Declaration of Independence': I, Yaw Andoh Mensah, being of good and sound mind do declare the following
1. I believe in God, and all that is about him. I refuse to believe he is a concept of my incapability, because he is real and my closest ally.
2. I will excel in all I do this year because his son, Jesus, the Christ, is on my side.
3. I will achieve greatness, this year is just part of the beginning for the rest of my life.
4. I will conquer all my enemies, put them to shame and make them my allies.
5. I will put the needs of my loved ones' above all else, unless what they ask for is something I cannot give.
5. I will grow in wisdom, in knowledge and in stature; full of favour before God and man.
6. I will go places, and all men will seek after me.
7. Above all , no weapon fashioned against me, in the spirit world and this physical world will stand. I will live beyond reproach, I will soar like an eagle, never to want or be in need.

This is the beginning, of the new life, the one people have been dreaming of, I AM ABOUT TO LIVE IT!

COUNTRY AND GOVERNMENT: A REFLECTION

Today I started writing about whether one can love country and fear government. When I started writing on this subject, I realized the mammoth task ahead. However, I am very encouraged, this essay will help me educate myself about one vital institution in every economy, the government. In writing too, I discovered one important paradox, can country and government be two separate and independent institutions? This is the position i have taken on this issue, I hope I will be able to capture the essence of this project. When I'm done with the paper, I will gladly share it with the world to find out their thoughts on the issue too.

COULD IT BE

Could it be that you might love someone and want to spend so much time with another. Not necessary because you hate spending time with the person you love but because the other person is 'easy like Sunday morning'. Otherwise, it could be safe to say we all need that experience of the fleeting moment.

Some people are good for each other irrespective of the happenings of the present. The unfortunate happens a lot in real relationships. Fantasies are however fun; free from troubles, pain and hurt, it could be that is not necessarily true.

Could it be that love is so troublesome that you get to that intolerable stage. True love works things out. I work things out. No matter how many fleeting moments I have, I have only one person to spend the rest of my life with.

IT COULD BE THAT LOVE SO PURE AND TRUE BECOMES INTOLERABLE, IT COULD ALSO BE THAT SOMETIMES, WE NEED A FLEETING MOMENT TO REMIND US OF WHERE WE BELONG. MY FANTASIES ARE MY LIFE. THAT CAN TOTALLY BE.

ARGUING WITH MYSELF

To think that life is full of surprise is a cliche. Yes, I am all about the cliches, and today is no different. We try so hard to make ends meet, we get a job, give off our best and yet still, life is no different from what it was yesterday. Mostly, I believe we try too hard to make it work for us. Life has a way of dealing with us. It has its own way of making things work; that is the natural order. Life should work, it should be fun, full of happiness. That should be the natural order.

You wish! Often a times, life sucks, not because LIFE in general sucks, but because those around us, those who are suppose to have our backs -- family and friends -- are the foes we are running away from. Life should be fair, equity, that should be the basis of every human society. Laugh out loud, because it's never going to happen. The rich will continue being rich, and the poor remain in the gutter. Needless to say, the foolish ones in these groups will lose their positions, for the worst or best respectively.

I believe in LIFE, because it is God's gift to us. I suppose we all have varying opinions concerning life. But eventually, it all works for our good.

LIFE IS BITTER, LIFE IS SWEET, LIFE IS HARSH, LIFE IS COMFORTING, LIFE IS HARD, LIFE IS MANAGEABLE, LIFE IS AWESOME!
All these statements are a matter of opinion. In my best opinion, Life is what it is, it's everything and nothing combined. What is important is what you make of it.

LIFE IS ALL ABOUT LIVING. THAT IS THE WHOLE STORY.

FIGHTING WITH MY GIRLFRIEND

So I am here, talking with my girlfriend about a fight we picked . I still think it's her fault, on the other hand, she thinks I was cruel and vengeful. I will really like to think otherwise, but what's the point, what has happened has happened. It was hard, because for the first time, I lost control of myself and did not know what I was doing. I was confused and lost, maybe, I over exaggerated the whole thing. Maybe not. She is sitting by me reading this blog and laughing. She says she was smiling. To continue, I made her cry, something she hasn't done in a long time. I wish I could cry also, but I have not been able to do that in a very long time.

What I was by the way, I mean, my emotional state, was AFRAID. I was afraid for the first time in a long while that I was going to lose her because of my pride. I thought I understood why people commitment passion crimes. But now I know why. This s**** is never happening to me.

She thinks she is going to lose me, she doesn't know losing her will be THE BIGGEST lost on my part not hers. I love my girlfriend, but I AM SURE SHE DOESN'T KNOW IT YET.

TIME WILL TELL.

CURIOUS

I tried writing on this same topic a while back, rather unfortunate, but I lost my internet connection. So I am here again, trying to write on this same topic again.

Curiosity is defined by the Concise Oxford Dictionary (10 ed.) as a strong desire to know or learn something.
Whenever I think about curiosity, only one cliche jumps to mind, "Curiosity killed the cat" I have a thing for cliches, yes, I do. Let's get back to the argument, curiosity killed...
If this were true, then I am of the view that there is no need to search for the unknown. Nonetheless, I must admit that the thought of the unknown sends thrills through my spine.
If life was about the known, then I don't get the point in living; because nothing about the known is exciting anymore. When Humphry Davy first invented the lightbulb, it was the 'wow' thing of the century, even after Thomas Edison improved on it. Now nobody really cares about light-bulb anymore.
When Newton proposed his gravitational theory it was the 'it' theory in the world of science; most of us don't care about gravitation let alone how to calculate it anymore.

Life is about being curious. If this assertion is also true, then as citizens, we have the right to know what those who have charge over us, either by appointment or election, decide for us in relation to consumer satisfaction and organizational profit in general welfare to the government or the economy we find ourselves in.

Another school of thought will suggest that if the general citizenry knows about every little detail with regards to deals that our 'superiors' have agreed on in our stead, there will be chaos in the country. I beg to differ. Chaos will arise in such situations where the people discover the hidden selfish interests of these leaders. We hide things not because we are afraid people can't handle the truth; it's rather because we don't want them to realize how selfish we are and how this translates into the deals we sign behind closed doors.

Where lies the paradox in this situation? Human Beings according to our nature like to find things out; some 'smart' people on the other hand like to make some of these discoveries exclusive. Some like to know, others are afraid to know, but there is always the strong desire to know. That is where the paradox lies!
